a darkness overtook me many moons ago to slow me down and show me the right path. this dark thing has been inside me all along, and last year was the great purge.
i couldn’t let it go until i acknowledged what it gave me. it gave me my whole life after i leaned into it; after i accepted it for what it was.
the immense darkness inside of me also gives me the immense capacity for light. i just had to learn to direct the darkness outside of me, so that it follows me but doesn’t overcome me. Now this shadow trails me, and i can lean into it or step into the light by my choosing. i have that power now.
“Things can be seen better in the darkness,”
he said as if he had just seen into her mind.
“But the longer you spend in the dark, the harder it becomes to return to the world aboveground where the light is.”
– Haruki Murakami, 1Q84
